About the Hawkeye Model Railroad Club

The Hawkeye Model Railroad Club's purpose is to educate Club members and the general public about all aspects of railroading and model railroading. The club currently has about 27 members, at all ages and all skill levels. Ongoing projects include all aspects of model railroading, from layout design, to wiring, tracklaying, and scenery construction.

The Club, formed in the spring of 2006, is building an HO-scale model train layout with a Midwestern theme in 2000 square feet of space. The layout is being planned for operation as a prototypical railroad and uses an NCE Digital Command Control system. Construction of the layout began in November 2006 and continues as a work in progress.

The layout is housed in a large building just off Interstate 80 in Coralville, Iowa along with the Antique Car Museum of Iowa, and the Johnson County Historical Society Museum.
